Measured against your CAD and your photos
Every dimension comes from Flared.step and every wood surface from your photographs. This page shows the checks, and the points we still need you to confirm.
Geometry from Flared.step
The STEP file was converted to a mesh without remodelling. Bounding boxes of the converted parts:
| Part | Width | Length | Thickness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blade (BLADE M - FLARED) | 151.0 mm | 258.0 mm | 6.0 mm |
| Half handle, each (HALF HANDLE - FLARED) | 35.9 mm | 102.0 mm | 10.0 mm |
| Handle, assembled | 36.4 mm | 102.0 mm | 26.0 mm |
Handle 2 uses exactly the same two half-handle meshes as Handle 1, so it covers only the Handle 1 area, as your brief asks. The internal slot and pockets in your CAD are kept; they appear in the exploded view.
Outline match with your photos
The CAD outline was fitted to the blade outline in each photo. The match score is the overlap of the two outlines (intersection over union; 100 % is identical).
| Photo | Used for | Outline match |
|---|---|---|
| Blade 1 | Front veneer, Handle 1 front, PALIS label | 99.48 % |
| Blade 3 | Back veneer, Handle 1 back, flag | 99.61 % |
| logo.jpeg | Handle 1 butt, medallion (14.6 mm) | 99.14 % |

In the configurator, Compare with your photo puts the same photos over the live model, so you can check any detail yourself.
Handle 2 pattern
Measured on your two padauk-handle photos at 4x zoom (positions from the top view, 18.7 px per mm), then applied to the CAD handle:
- Top of the handle, centred: three light lines about 1 mm wide with 1.2 mm of padauk between them.
- One thin light line along each side, at the blade plane.
- A 5 mm light end cap with the medallion, wrapping the whole butt.

Please confirm
- Stripe and cap woods. Your PDF mentions "padauk with hornbeam stripes" as an example. We render the colours from the photo; tell us the species and the labels follow.
- The darker line. Your angled photo shows one line darker than padauk between the second and third light lines; the top view does not. We left it out. If it is a dark veneer, it is one entry in the design file.
- The side line. On your photo the side shows padauk with one thin light line. In the PALIS CAD the blade core reaches the handle sides (6 mm). We show the photo's pattern on that surface. If the real handle shows the core plies instead, it is one setting.
Weight and balance
Volumes come from the CAD solids (exact, including the internal slot). Densities are assumptions until you give us your workshop numbers; the full version stores them per wood in the admin.
| Part | Volume | Density | Density source | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blade body incl. core under the handle | 136.1 cm³ | 0.45 g/cm³ | Assumed for a light 5-ply stack | 61.2 g |
| Handle 1, both halves | 35.7 cm³ | 0.70 g/cm³ | Assumed, species not stated | 25.0 g |
| Handle 2, both halves | 35.7 cm³ | 0.745 g/cm³ | Padauk, Wood Database average | 26.6 g |
| Configuration | Estimated weight | Balance point from butt |
|---|---|---|
| PALIS Flared, Handle 1 | 86 g ± 5 g | 127 mm |
| PALIS Flared, Handle 2 | 88 g ± 5 g | 126 mm |
Balance point = the volume centroid of each part (blade 160.7 mm, handle 44.9 mm from the butt) weighted by its mass. Glue, finish, rubbers and the medallion are not included.
Textures and sources
| Surface | Source |
|---|---|
| Front and back veneer | Blade 1 and Blade 3, cut at 6000 px, light removed, relief and gloss maps from the grain |
| Edge plies | Blade 2 and Blade 4 edges: face 0.55 mm, inner 0.3 mm, core 4.3 mm |
| Handle 1, label, flag | Blade 1 and Blade 3, projected onto the CAD handle |
| Handle 1 butt, medallion | logo.jpeg |
| Handle 2 padauk | Licensed padauk stock photo, colour-graded to your Handle 2 photo (your photo is too angled and close to cover the whole handle) |
| Handle 2 end cap | Open-licence (CC0) end-grain texture graded to your photo, medallion from logo.jpeg |
Performance
- Handle switch: under 1 ms (both handles are prepared at load).
- Phones get a lighter texture set; desktop gets the full-resolution set.
